Chinese cuisine is not a single style but a vast collection of regional food cultures developed over centuries. Rice and noodles, soy products, vegetables, pork, poultry, seafood, tea, and grains appear widely, but the ways they are seasoned and prepared vary enormously between provinces and culinary schools.

Sichuan cooking is known for layered chilli and numbing pepper flavours, Cantonese food often emphasises freshness and delicate cooking, while northern traditions favour wheat-based foods and dumplings. Steaming, stir-frying, braising, roasting, smoking, pickling, and fermentation all contribute to one of the world's most technically diverse cuisines.
