Introduction: A warming spiced mulled wine, a beloved Romanian winter drink especially popular around Christmas markets.
Cultural Background: Vin fiert is a cherished part of Romanian winter tradition, particularly at Christmas markets, its warm blend of red wine, citrus and spices offering comfort against the cold winter air.
Tips: Keep the heat low throughout — boiling the wine will cook off the alcohol and can make the flavour harsh. Adjust the sugar and spices to taste, as recipes vary by family and region.
Variations: Add a splash of brandy for extra warmth and depth. Use a mix of red and a little white wine for a lighter version.
Storage: Best made fresh; leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and gently reheated.
Reheating: Reheat very gently on the stovetop over low heat, without boiling.
FAQs:

A: Around Christmas, particularly at Christmas markets across Romania, where it's a beloved warming drink.
Q: Why shouldn't the wine be boiled?
A: Boiling can cook off much of the alcohol and give the wine a harsh, bitter taste; gentle heating preserves the best flavour.
