Ingredients

  • - 1 kg (2.2 lb) potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • - 60 g (4 tbsp) butter
  • - 120 ml (1/2 cup) whole milk
  • - 500 g (1.1 lb) minced (ground) beef
  • - 1 onion, finely chopped
  • - 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • - 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • - 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • - 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • - 2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • - 60 g (1/2 cup) green olives, pitted
  • - 60 g (1/2 cup) raisins
  • - Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

  1. Boil the potatoes until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain, mash with butter and milk until smooth, and season.
  2. In a frying pan, cook the onion, pepper and garlic until soft. Add the beef and brown, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, paprika, salt and pepper, and simmer 10 minutes until thickened.
  4. Off the heat, fold in the sliced eggs, olives and raisins.
  5. Spread the beef mixture in a baking dish, top evenly with mashed potato, and smooth or fork the surface for texture.
  6. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20 minutes, then grill (broil) for 3-5 minutes until golden on top.
