- 7 g (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 60 g (1/4 cup) butter, softened
- 250 ml (1 cup) warm milk

Method
- Combine the flour, sugar, yeast and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the softened butter, warm milk and egg, and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic, then cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf tin. Cover and let rise for a further 45 minutes.
- Brush the top with beaten egg and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
