Central/South America
Empanada Crimper
Argentina, Chile, and the wider Latin American empanada tradition

A hinged or wheeled tool used to crimp and seal the folded edge of empanada dough, producing the tool's characteristic ridged, sealed edge (repulgue) common across the region.
Material & Construction
A small hinged plastic or metal mold, or a rolling crimper wheel, shaped to press a decorative ridged seal into folded dough in one motion.
Traditional Uses
Sealing filled empanada dough quickly and consistently, particularly for large batches made for family gatherings or holidays.
Modern Availability / Equivalents
Hand-pleating the edge by folding small tucks with the fingers (the traditional repulgue technique) remains common and is considered by many cooks a mark of skill over using a tool.
Care & Maintenance
Hand-wash and dry; plastic versions are dishwasher-safe, metal versions should be dried promptly.
