Shops & Street Food Review

McDonagh’s, Quay Street

A Galway institution since 1902, right in the middle of Quay Street with a traditional, stone-floored chip-shop feel. The classic cod and chips is exactly what it should be — light batter, flaky fish and properly fresh-tasting chips — at a price that still feels reasonable for how central it is.

Best Thing About It

Light, crisp batter over flaky, fresh fish, plus proper thick-cut chips

Expect a queue — it's genuinely busy, part of the Quay Street experience
