Restaurant Review
The Globe
A polished Topsham gastropub with proper British classics and a cosy old-pub feel.
01 The Arrival
The Globe has that instantly appealing combination of traditional pub character and modern comfort. It feels cosy without being old-fashioned, with plenty of character in the building and a really welcoming atmosphere.
02 The Food
I went for the Devon fish and chips, while we shared scotch eggs and sourdough with whipped butter, finishing with a sticky toffee pudding. The fish was beautifully cooked and the batter was crisp without being too heavy. The sticky toffee pudding was the perfect ending - warm, rich and extremely comforting.
03 The Experience
Friendly and polished service without feeling formal, with staff attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The Globe has a lovely old-pub feel, but the interior is comfortable and stylish enough for a proper meal.
04 Was It Worth It?
Good. It sits slightly above ordinary pub pricing, but the food and atmosphere justify it.
05 The Verdict
Pros: beautiful pub, excellent food, cosy atmosphere, good service. Cons: slightly pricier than a basic pub meal. Note: The Globe is in Topsham rather than Exeter city itself. A lovely choice for traditional British food with a more polished gastropub feel.
