Restaurant Review
The Gannet
A relaxed, imaginative Finnieston fine-diner built around seasonal Scottish tasting menus.
01 The Arrival
The Gannet has always struck diners as fine dining without the stiffness that can come with it — the interior is stylish but relaxed, with exposed brick, wood and candlelit tables creating a cosy Finnieston feel that never makes you want to whisper.
02 The Food
Reviews of the tasting menus highlight dishes such as scallops, cured halibut, mackerel, beef tartare with smoked eel, citrus-cured trout, monkfish, venison, red deer, lamb and roast apple soufflé, alongside frequently praised wine pairings. This is Scottish ingredients treated with real imagination — seasonal, changeable menus built around exceptionally careful cooking, with venison, seafood and beef particular standouts and desserts just as memorable.
03 The Experience
Service receives particularly strong feedback — knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being intrusive, with courses explained clearly and dietary requirements handled thoughtfully. The atmosphere is cosy, stylish and relaxed rather than intimidating, with candlelit tables perfect for a birthday, anniversary or simply a lovely meal.
04 Was It Worth It?
It's definitely a splurge, but the experience lasts several hours at a very high level of cooking — for a special occasion, it feels like money well spent.
05 The Verdict
Exceptional seasonal cooking, beautiful presentation, knowledgeable staff, a relaxed fine-dining atmosphere and excellent Scottish ingredients, though it's a significant spend compared with the rest of this list. For a special meal, the tasting menu and letting the kitchen do the work is very tempting.
