Restaurant Review
The Black Griffin Inn
Authentic countryside pub charm and comforting food just minutes outside the capital.
01 The Arrival
Tucked away in the sleepy, charming village of Lisvane just north of Cardiff, this historic pub sits right opposite the church. It has an immediate, cosy village-local charm that makes you feel instantly at home.
02 The Food
We ordered a classic homemade beef burger, a loaded tex-mex sharing platter, and a traditional Sunday roast complete with all the crisp trimmings. The roast featured tender meat, massive fluffy roast potatoes and rich, savoury gravy that tasted completely homemade, while the tex-mex platter was wonderfully crisp and packed with flavour.
03 The Experience
The staff and management team are standout stars here - so friendly, accommodating to walk-ins, and deeply invested in creating a welcoming community atmosphere. It's incredibly cosy, family-friendly and dog-friendly too.
04 Was It Worth It?
Fantastic value, especially with their welcoming food deals and affordable menu options.
05 The Verdict
A gorgeous village setting, exceptional local hospitality and great community events - it's a little outside the city centre if you're relying entirely on walking, but well worth the short trip. Anyone craving a wholesome escape into a true community local pub will love it.
