Kindling Steakhouse

One of the strongest recommendations on this Brighton list for a proper steak.

01 The Arrival

Kindling sits right in the Brighton Lanes with an atmosphere that is smart without being stuffy, and the open kitchen lets you watch the steaks being cooked over charcoal.

02 The Food

We had a dry-aged sirloin with chimichurri, skinny fries and creamed spinach, plus macaroni cheese with sage crisps. The steak had a gorgeous charred exterior and was cooked exactly as ordered, the chimichurri added freshness without hiding the beef, and the creamed spinach and mac and cheese were rich and indulgent.

03 The Experience

Staff were really friendly and professional, knew the menu well and were happy to talk through steaks and sauces. The atmosphere is relaxed, modern and lively, with the open kitchen adding a bit of theatre.

04 Was It Worth It?

Very good value for a steakhouse - Kindling keeps its steak offering accessible, and the Sunday sharing roast at 29 pounds per person is particularly good value.

05 The Verdict

Fantastic steak, charcoal flavour, great sides and good value, though it is very popular so booking ahead is sensible. Exactly where to go for a really good steak without the ultra-formal steakhouse feel.
