Description: A layered, fruity long drink created at Raffles Hotel, one of the most famous tropical cocktails in the world.

Cultural Background: Created around 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore, originally designed to look like fruit juice so women could drink it discreetly in an era when that was frowned upon.

Tips: Fresh pineapple juice makes a real difference against the canned version.

Variations: Modern bars vary widely in recipe — some simplify to fewer ingredients, though the full historical build is worth trying at least once.

Serving Suggestion: Serve tall, over plenty of ice, as a warm-weather showpiece drink.

Nutrition: Approx. 210 kcal per serving

FAQs:

Q: Why so many ingredients?
A: The original recipe layers several liqueurs and juices for a complex, tropical flavor rather than relying on one dominant note.
