Description: Spain's classic red wine punch, infused overnight with brandy, orange liqueur and fresh fruit for a deeply fruity, sociable drink.
Cultural Background: Traces to Spain and Portugal, with roots going back centuries to wine-and-water mixtures; the modern fruit-and-spirit version became internationally popular through the 1900s.
Tips: The longer the wine and fruit sit together before serving, the better the flavor — overnight is ideal.
Variations: White wine instead of red makes "Sangria Blanca," a lighter summer variant.
Serving Suggestion: Serve well chilled, distributing the macerated fruit among glasses.
