Description: The Old Fashioned is the cocktail from which the very word "cocktail" gets its original definition: spirit, sugar, water, bitters.
Cultural Background: First described in print in the 1880s, the drink was popularised at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and its name reflects a 20th-century push to return to the "old fashioned way" of making a whiskey cocktail after decades of ever-fancier additions.
Tips: Use one large ice cube rather than several small ones to keep dilution slow and controlled.
Variations: Swap bourbon for rye for a spicier, drier version, or use a smoked sugar cube for a campfire note.
Serving Suggestion: Serve as a slow, contemplative sipper — not a drink to rush.
Nutrition: Approx. 165 kcal per serving
