Description: A simple, elegant French aperitif pairing dry white wine with a small measure of blackcurrant liqueur.

Cultural Background: Named for Félix Kir, a priest, wartime resistance figure and later mayor of Dijon, who popularised the drink in the mid-1900s using local Burgundy wine and cassis.

Tips: A crisp, quite tart white wine (traditionally Aligoté) balances best against the cassis's sweetness.

Variations: Swap still white wine for champagne to make a Kir Royale.

Serving Suggestion: Serve well chilled as a light pre-dinner aperitif.

Nutrition: Approx. 130 kcal per serving

FAQs:

Q: What if I can't find Aligoté?
A: Any crisp, dry, relatively acidic white wine works well as a substitute.
