Description: An unsweetened gin and lime highball — dry, crisp and refreshing, with no added sugar at all.

Cultural Background: Named for Washington lobbyist Colonel Joe Rickey in the 1880s, originally made with bourbon before the gin version became equally popular.

Tips: Squeeze the lime wedge into the drink after garnishing for an extra hit of fresh juice.

Variations: A bourbon Rickey follows the same structure using whiskey instead of gin.

Serving Suggestion: Serve tall, unsweetened, as a genuinely dry refresher.

FAQs:

Q: Is there any sugar in this?
A: No — the Rickey is defined by having no sweetener at all, unlike most other gin sours.
