Introduction: A cooling, savoury yogurt drink thinned with water and brightened with fresh mint, perfect alongside spiced or grilled food.
Cultural Background: Dogh is a common summer refreshment across Afghanistan, offering relief from the heat and pairing naturally with rich, spiced dishes like kabab.
Tips: Use full-fat yogurt for the best texture and flavour. Adjust the water ratio to taste — some prefer a thicker, more yogurt-forward drink.
Variations: Add a pinch of dried mint instead of fresh if that’s what’s on hand. A small pinch of ground cumin can be added for a different regional variation.
Vegetarian/Vegan: Naturally vegetarian. For a vegan version, use a plain plant- based yogurt.
Serving Suggestions: Serve alongside kabab, pulao, or any rich, spiced main dish.
Storage: Best served fresh; can be refrigerated for a few hours, though it may separate slightly — stir before serving.
Reheating: Not applicable — served cold.
