Ingredients
- - 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
- - 1 sugar cube (or 1/4 oz simple syrup)
- - 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- - Splash of water
Method
- Muddle the sugar cube with bitters and a splash of water in the glass.
- Add a large ice cube and the whiskey.
- Stir well until chilled.
Description: The original cocktail: spirit, sugar, bitters, and a twist, built directly in the glass.
Garnish: Orange twist and a cocktail cherry
Note: Widely considered the ancestor of the modern cocktail, dating to the early-to-mid 1800s.
