Ingredients
- 2 fillets of smoked mackerel (skins removed)
- 2 tbsp cream cheese or crème fraîche
- 1 tsp horseradish sauce or Dijon mustard
- Juice of 1/4 lemon
- Black pepper
- Your choice of crackers or Irish oatcakes
Method
- Place the skinless smoked mackerel fillets into a bowl and flake them aggressively with a fork.
- Add the cream cheese, horseradish sauce, lemon juice, and a generous crack of black pepper.
- Mash everything together with the fork until it forms a spreadable, rustic pâté (leave a few small chunks for texture).
- Spread immediately onto crackers or crisp oatcakes. Garnish with a bit of fresh dill if you have it.
Irish smoked mackerel is incredibly cheap, highly nutritious, and packed with flavor. This 5- minute snack mashes it into a creamy, peppery dip perfect for crackers or oatcakes.
