Middle East
Manqal Coal Tongs
Levant and the wider Arab world

Long-handled metal tongs used to arrange, lift, and reposition hot charcoal in a manqal brazier while grilling kebabs and other skewered meats.
Material & Construction
Forged or welded steel, with long arms to keep the user's hand well clear of the heat, and a simple pivot or spring hinge.
Traditional Uses
Rearranging coals for even heat, adding fresh charcoal mid-grill, and removing spent coals without disturbing food already cooking on the grate above.
Modern Availability / Equivalents
Standard barbecue or fireplace tongs are functionally identical and widely used interchangeably with dedicated manqal versions.
Care & Maintenance
Wipe clean of ash and grease after use; occasional light oiling of the hinge keeps the action smooth.
