The Quirky Foodster Team

Ingredients
- Tequila — 45 ml (1 1/2 oz)
- Fresh orange juice — 90 ml (3 oz)
- Grenadine — 15 ml (1/2 oz)
Method
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Add the tequila and orange juice, and stir.
- Slowly pour the grenadine down the inside of the glass so it sinks and layers.
- Garnish with an orange slice and cherry, and serve without stirring the layers.
Description: A visually striking, layered tequila and orange juice highball that creates a gradient sunrise effect with grenadine.
Cultural Background: Rose to major fame in the mid-1970s, partly through its association with the Rolling Stones' 1972 US tour, though earlier versions existed.
Tips: Pour the grenadine slowly and gently — its density lets it sink and create the signature layered look.
Variations: A float of mezcal on top adds a smoky note for a modern twist.
Serving Suggestion: Serve without stirring so the layered "sunrise" effect remains visible.
Nutrition: Approx. 175 kcal per serving
FAQs:
Q: Why does the grenadine sink instead of float?
A: Grenadine is denser than orange juice, so poured gently it settles at the bottom rather than floating on top.
