Description: A drier cousin of the Boulevardier, using dry vermouth instead of sweet for a leaner, more austere drink.

Cultural Background: Also credited to Harry McElhone's 1920s Paris circle, reportedly named for New York Herald sports editor William "Sparrow" Robertson.

Tips: Because it's fully dry, this drink rewards a good-quality rye with real spice.

Variations: Swap rye for bourbon if you prefer more sweetness to counter the Campari's bitterness.

Serving Suggestion: Serve up, well chilled, as an aperitif.

Nutrition: Approx. 165 kcal per serving

FAQs:

Q: Is this the same as a Boulevardier?
A: Related but distinct — the Old Pal uses dry vermouth, making it noticeably less sweet.
