Introduction: Small, crisp orange-flavoured chocolate balls with a hard candy shell, a nostalgic New Zealand sweet enjoyed at the cinema and beyond.
Cultural Background: Jaffas are deeply woven into New Zealand cinema culture, famously rolled down sloped cinema floors by mischievous children, and they remain one of the country's most beloved and recognisable confectionery treats.
Tips: Work with well-chilled chocolate centres, as this makes dipping into the coating much easier. A toothpick inserted into the centre makes dipping and handling the small balls much simpler.
Variations: Add a tiny pinch of chilli to the chocolate for a spiced twist. Make larger versions for a more substantial treat.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Reheating: Not applicable — served as a cold, set confectionery.
FAQs:
Q: Why are Jaffas associated with cinemas in New Zealand?

Q: Can this homemade version taste exactly like the commercial sweet?
