Introduction: Golden fried dough pockets filled with spiced minced meat, a hearty, portable breakfast enjoyed across Namibian households.

Cultural Background: Vetkoek reflects Namibia's strong Afrikaner culinary influence, the fried dough traditionally served plain with jam or filled with a savoury mince, making it a versatile, filling start to the day.

Tips: Fry the vetkoek at a moderate, steady temperature so the inside cooks through without the outside burning. Let the dough rise fully for the lightest, fluffiest interior.

Variations: Serve plain vetkoek with apricot jam for a sweet version. Fill with cheese and chutney for a simpler vegetarian option.

Storage: Refrigerate the mince filling in an airtight container for up to 3 days; vetkoek are best eaten fresh.

Reheating: Reheat vetkoek in an oven at 180°C (350°F) for 8–10 minutes; reheat mince gently on the stovetop.
