Ingredients
- 500 g (4 cups) bread flour
- 7 g (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
- 10 g (2 tsp) sugar
- 5 g (1 tsp) salt
- 400 ml (1 2/3 cups) warm water
- 1 l (4 cups) vegetable oil, for frying
- 200 g (1/2 cup) honey
- 40 g (1/3 cup) crushed walnuts
- 1 tsp (1 tsp) ground cinnamon
Method
- Combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
- Gradually whisk in warm water to form a thick, sticky batter.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour until bubbly and doubled.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 180°C (350°F).
- Scoop small spoonfuls of batter (wetting the spoon helps) and carefully drop into the hot oil.
- Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes, turning until golden brown all over.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper.
- Drizzle generously with honey while still warm.
- Sprinkle with crushed walnuts and ground cinnamon before serving immediately.
