01 The Arrival

An atmosphere you simply can't manufacture, full of old Dublin character, traditional decor and literary history - it feels like somewhere that's genuinely been part of the city for generations.

02 The Food

A Gorgonzola sandwich with a glass of wine, plus shared oysters and a beef and Guinness pie. The sandwich was surprisingly delicious - simple, salty and creamy - while the pie was more substantial with rich gravy and tender beef, and the oysters were fresh and beautifully presented.

03 The Experience

Friendly and efficient service with a relaxed pub style. The original pre-war decor and literary history give the atmosphere enormous personality.

04 Was It Worth It?

Good value - you're paying for the history and atmosphere as well as the food, but it's still a satisfying meal.

05 The Verdict

Incredible history, a beautiful old interior, good food and an excellent location, though it can be busy and lively. The atmosphere is genuinely part of the experience here.
