First Impressions

Belfast Castle looks like something out of a fairy tale when you first see it sitting above the city - a dramatic stone castle, beautiful gardens, woodland surroundings and huge views over Belfast Lough. I honestly wasn't expecting it to feel quite so grand.

The Scenery

This is where Belfast Castle really shines.

What You'll See

The castle itself, formal gardens, Cave Hill, Belfast Lough, Belfast city, woodland, and mature trees and plants.

Best Photo Opportunities

Castle front, Italian-style gardens, views across Belfast, and the castle against Cave Hill.

Seasonal Appeal

Spring and summer are particularly lovely when the gardens are looking their best, while autumn gives the surrounding woodland beautiful colour.

Sounds & Surroundings

Birdsong and wind through the trees replace much of the city noise, although Belfast is spread out below you.

Getting There

Bus services operate along Antrim Road, with free on-site parking available. The castle grounds are relatively easy to explore, although Cave Hill itself is much more demanding.

Would I Visit Again?

Absolutely. The views alone make it worth returning.

Final Verdict

Belfast Castle is a must-visit destination because you get beautiful architecture, gardens and one of the best city views in Belfast without paying an admission fee.
