Stops & Spots Review
St George’s Market
First Impressions
The first thing that hits you at St George's Market is the noise and smell - food stalls everywhere, people chatting, music playing and the incredible Victorian market building overhead. I knew almost immediately that I was going to spend far longer here than I'd planned.
The Scenery
The building itself is gorgeous, particularly the roof structure and Victorian details.
What You'll See
Victorian market hall, food stalls, craft stalls, local produce, artwork and handmade goods, fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood, and street performers and live music.
Best Photo Opportunities
The market hall from the entrance, the central aisles, the roof and ironwork, and colourful food stalls.
Seasonal Appeal
Christmas is especially lovely, while weekends tend to have the biggest atmosphere. The market's different operating days also have different characters and stall mixes.
Sounds & Surroundings
A mixture of conversation, vendors calling out, music and the general bustle of a busy market - the city outside feels quite distant once you're inside. The market also has quieter sessions where music and other noise are reduced for visitors who need a calmer experience.
Getting There
Easily reached from Belfast city centre, with several city-centre car parks within walking distance.
Would I Visit Again?
Absolutely. It's one of those places where I'd happily return just to see what different stalls are there.
Final Verdict
St George's Market is a must-visit destination because it's one of the best places in Belfast to experience food, people, history and local atmosphere all at once.
