Embers Brighton

One of the more memorable places in Brighton thanks to its wood-fired cooking.

01 The Arrival

Embers is one of those restaurants where the atmosphere is almost as exciting as the food - the open fire in the middle of the room grabs your attention immediately, and the smell of wood smoke makes you hungry before you have even looked at the menu.

02 The Food

We went for smoked bonito tataki, ember-baked carrots, bonfire potatoes and chargrilled pork, plus sourdough and cocktails. The smoked bonito with ponzu, radish and wasabi cream was gorgeous, the carrots with dhal puree and carrot-top pesto were far more exciting than a simple side, and the pork was the standout main - beautifully caramelised outside and tender inside.

03 The Experience

Service was warm and polished, attentive without feeling formal. Watching the chefs cook over the fire gives the restaurant real theatre, while the wooden interior keeps things warm and cosy.

04 Was It Worth It?

Good value overall, though this is more of a treat than a cheap meal - the six-plate feast option offers good value for sharing.

05 The Verdict

Incredible fire cooking, exciting flavours and beautiful atmosphere, though it can get expensive with lots of plates and drinks. Perfect for anyone who enjoys sharing food and wants something more interesting than a standard restaurant meal.
