First Impressions

The building itself feels wonderfully grand before you've even reached the galleries - a monumental entrance, huge exhibition spaces, elegant architecture and bright galleries with lots to explore. I went in thinking I'd probably spend an hour there and immediately realised that wasn't going to happen.

The Scenery

The museum combines Wales's national art, natural history and geology collections, and is free to enter, although some temporary exhibitions may charge.

What You'll See

Impressionist paintings, Welsh art, natural history, dinosaur skeletons, geological displays, sculpture and temporary exhibitions.

Best Photo Opportunities

The main entrance, grand interior spaces, sculpture displays, the dinosaur gallery, and Gorsedd Gardens outside.

Seasonal Appeal

Perfect for absolutely any season, but particularly useful on one of those classic rainy Cardiff days.

Sounds & Surroundings

Mostly quiet conversations and footsteps, with a little more noise around the family-friendly exhibits.

Getting There

Easily reached from central Cardiff, with city-centre parking available nearby.

Would I Visit Again?

Yes - I'd especially like to return and spend longer with the art collection.

Final Verdict

National Museum Cardiff is a must-visit destination because it packs an enormous amount of art, science and Welsh heritage into one free attraction.
