Cardiff Market is one of the best places in the city for a casual lunch, and Franco's has that brilliant market-stall atmosphere where you can watch the food being prepared before finding somewhere nearby to sit. The bread was excellent, crisp on the outside but soft enough to soak up all the juices from the fillings, with salty, rich cured meat and creamy cheese. It's rooted in Italian deli culture - simple ingredients assembled into something far better than the sum of its parts.
