Miller & Carter Exeter

A polished steakhouse with well-cooked aged sirloin and generous, indulgent sides.

01 The Arrival

Miller & Carter has the polished steakhouse atmosphere you'd expect - dark wood, comfortable booths and a slightly indulgent feel. Definitely somewhere for a proper meal rather than a quick bite.

02 The Food

I ordered a 30-day-aged sirloin steak, with triple-cooked chips, peppercorn sauce and a side of mac and cheese, plus shared garlic mushrooms. The steak was beautifully cooked with a lovely charred crust. The triple-cooked chips were crispy outside and fluffy inside, and the mac and cheese was ridiculously indulgent alongside the steak.

03 The Experience

Very good service - staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, particularly when discussing how the steak should be cooked. Comfortable and smart, with the classic steakhouse combination of warm lighting and dark wood.

04 Was It Worth It?

This is probably the weakest category simply because steakhouse meals can become expensive quickly once you add sides and sauces.

05 The Verdict

Pros: excellent steaks, good sides, polished service, comfortable setting. Cons: extras can make the bill climb quickly. An easy choice if you're craving steak - the quality of the meat is the main attraction.
