Restaurant Review

Mill on the Exe

A riverside gastropub in an old mill building, best enjoyed outside on a sunny day.

01 The Arrival

The location is gorgeous - Mill on the Exe sits right beside the river, and the old mill setting gives it loads of character. It feels particularly lovely when you can sit outside with the water nearby, instantly making a meal feel more special.

02 The Food

I went for fish and chips, while we also shared halloumi fries and garlic bread. The fish and chips were exactly what I wanted from a riverside gastropub - crisp batter, flaky fish and chunky chips. The halloumi fries were another winner, salty, crispy and perfect for sharing.

03 The Experience

Friendly and efficient service, with staff keeping things moving despite the restaurant being busy. This is where Mill on the Exe really shines - the historic building, river views and outdoor seating give it a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

04 Was It Worth It?

Good. The food is reasonably priced for the setting and the portions are satisfying.

05 The Verdict

Pros: beautiful riverside setting, cosy interior, good pub food, great outdoor area. Cons: I'd definitely book ahead at busy times. Ideal for a relaxed meal where the surroundings matter almost as much as the food.
