First Impressions

Unlike anywhere else visited in London — overgrown paths, Victorian tombs, ancient-looking trees and Gothic monuments create an almost storybook atmosphere, wonderfully atmospheric without being deliberately spooky.

Victorian tombs, Egyptian Avenue, Lebanon Circle, Gothic monuments and historic chapels among mature trees and ivy-covered graves.

What You'll See

Seasonal Appeal

Autumn is probably unbeatable — leaves, moss and old stone make the cemetery look almost unreal; spring is also beautiful when the woodland comes alive.

Sounds & Surroundings

Birdsong and rustling leaves dominate, with the occasional sound of London traffic beyond the cemetery walls.

Getting There

Archway and Highgate Underground stations are the main options, with buses serving the area; street parking is limited.

Would I Visit Again?

Absolutely — keen to take a guided tour next time for the stories behind the graves.

Final Verdict

A must-visit because it feels like a completely different world hidden within London.
